Choose to be curious about the other person’s viewpoint rather than immediately disagreeing or becoming defensive. Ask open-ended questions to explore their reasoning and perspective. 

Establish a common goal or purpose for the conversation to keep it focused and productive. 

Identify shared values, interests, or goals to build rapport and create a sense of connection. 

Recognize that a constructive conversation is not a competition. It’s about learning and potentially finding a mutually agreeable solution.

Acknowledge the other person’s feelings and perspective, even if you don’t agree with them.
