If you soak up every comment—positive or negative—you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed and unsure of yourself. That’s sponge mode. It dilutes your focus and erodes your confidence.

A healthy feedback mindset means sifting through what you hear. Keep the insights that matter and discard the rest. It’s about intentional listening—not emotional absorption.

Wangilla offers a clever acronym for deciding what to keep:

  • Source – Who’s giving it? A trusted mentor carries more weight.
  • Impact – Does this feedback truly matter to your goals or values?
  • Frequency – Has this point come up repeatedly?
  • Trend – Does this feedback mirror across settings—work, home, school? By scoring each, you can prioritize high-value feedback and let the rest float away.

You’re allowed to disagree or choose not to act on every piece of feedback. Letting go frees mental space for growth-focused insights.

  1. Pause & Sift – Don’t react instantly. Filter all feedback through your S.I.F.T. lens.
  2. Engage Your Logic – Take notes, ask clarifying questions, categorize feedback.
  3. Choose What Suits You – Keep what aligns with your values, goals, and recurring patterns.
  4. Discard the Rest – Let go of random, low-impact, or misaligned feedback.
