Geller discusses the importance of shifting from external motivation (rewards or punishments) to intrinsic motivation (personal satisfaction). He stresses that motivation from within is far more sustainable and fulfilling than motivation from external sources. To foster intrinsic motivation, Geller suggests cultivating autonomy, competence, and connection with others, which align with the psychological needs described in Self-Determination Theory.

Three Core Questions to Ask Yourself:
This question is about self-efficacy, the belief in our own ability to complete a task. When people believe in their competence, they’re more likely to stay motivated.
This focuses on response efficacy, which is the belief that the actions one takes will actually lead to the desired outcome. If people believe their actions matter, they are more likely to engage in them consistently.
Here, Geller is emphasizing consequences, the value we place on outcomes. People are more motivated if they believe the outcome will be meaningful or valuable.
Geller's approach is practical and grounded in everyday actions we can take to become more self-motivated, such as setting meaningful goals, recognizing our abilities, and understanding the broader impact of our actions on ourselves and others. His message is that by nurturing these qualities, we empower ourselves to take control of our lives and drive change from within.
