Mauritania is a country located in Northwest Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara to the northwest, Algeria to the northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, and Senegal to the southwest. It is known for its vast deserts and sparse population. Nouakchott is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. Arabic is the official language, while French is also widely used, particularly in government and education. Hassaniya Arabic and Pulaar are also commonly spoken. Mauritania's geography is dominated by the Sahara Desert, which covers most of the country.
